Daylight Savings And Why They Do It

Arizonans can sometimes forget that basically every other state changes their clocks twice a year. With 360 days of sunshine Arizona has opted out of daylight savings, as it is not mandatory.
Benjamin Franklin was said to have introduced America to daylight savings after his trip to Europe. This idea to utilize daylight more effectively was transferred to reducing energy costs, like burning the midnight oil. Many argue that daylight savings does not save energy, especially with technology to combat the setting sun. Other studies support the change and show national energy decreases. During the 1973-74 Arab oil embargo, the US decreased their electrical load by one percent. Contradicting studies also exist when discussing the healthiness to people and their habits when clocks are changed.
